Cru Social Inc – Community Guidelines
Last Updated: January 5, 2026
Welcome to Cru! These Community Guidelines help create a positive, professional, and aviation-focused environment where pilots, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts can connect, share experiences, and grow together.
Our Terms of Service set the legal rules for using Cru. These Community Guidelines go further by describing the kind of community we're building and the behavior we encourage.
Our Mission
Cru exists to connect the aviation community—from student pilots to airline captains, from A&Ps to dispatchers, from controllers to aviation enthusiasts. We're here to celebrate flying, share knowledge, support career growth, and build meaningful professional relationships.
Core Principles
1. Keep It Aviation-Focused
Cru is built for aviation content. While we all have interests beyond flying, we encourage you to keep your posts relevant to:
- Flying experiences and aviation adventures
- Career development and professional milestones
- Aircraft, technology, and industry news
- Safety, training, and skill development
- Aviation photography and creative content
- Networking and professional opportunities
- General aviation culture and community
Off-topic content (politics, sports, lifestyle topics unrelated to aviation, etc.) doesn't align with what most Cru users are here for. While an occasional off-topic post won't get you banned, Cru works best when we stay focused on our shared passion for aviation.
2. Be Professional and Respectful
Cru is a professional networking platform. Treat others the way you'd want to be treated in a flight deck, FBO, or professional conference:
- Respectful disagreement is welcome—attacking others is not
- Constructive criticism builds community—personal insults tear it down
- Diverse perspectives strengthen aviation—discrimination and harassment have no place here
- Professional standards apply even in casual conversations
3. Be Authentic
The aviation community values integrity:
- Represent yourself accurately - Don't exaggerate ratings, hours, or experience
- Give credit where due - Cite sources, tag photographers, acknowledge instructors
- Be honest about your experience level - The community respects honesty more than inflated credentials
- Don't impersonate others - Be yourself, not someone else
4. Share Responsibly
As aviation professionals, we understand the importance of safety and responsibility:
- Verify before sharing - Especially when posting about incidents, accidents, or safety issues
- Respect confidentiality - Don't share sensitive operational information or proprietary data
- Consider your audience - Remember that student pilots, employers, and the general public may see your posts
- Represent your employer appropriately - If you mention your employer, be mindful of how you represent them
Content We Discourage
While the following content doesn't necessarily violate our Terms of Service, it doesn't align with Cru's purpose and may be removed or restricted:
Political and Divisive Content
- Partisan political commentary about candidates, elections, or political parties
- Divisive debates on controversial non-aviation topics
- "Hot takes" designed to provoke arguments rather than discussion
Note: Aviation policy discussions (FAA regulations, airspace changes, industry legislation, safety board decisions) are relevant to our community and are welcome when discussed professionally and constructively.
Commercial and Promotional Content
- Excessive self-promotion or spam
- Unauthorized commercial solicitation
- Multi-level marketing or get-rich-quick schemes
- Affiliate link spam
Note: Sharing your aviation business, services, or products is fine in moderation—especially if it adds value to the community. The line is between authentic sharing and spammy promotion.
Low-Quality or Inappropriate Content
- Misleading clickbait
- Excessive profanity (we're professionals, not sailors)
- NSFW content unrelated to aviation contexts
- Engagement bait ("Like if you agree," "Share this or else," etc.)
- Repetitive or duplicate posts
Dangerous or Irresponsible Content
- Glorification of dangerous flying or FAR violations
- Encouragement of unsafe practices
- Sharing of false safety information
- Promotion of aircraft modifications that violate regulations
Content We Prohibit
The following content violates our Terms of Service and will result in content removal and potential account suspension:
- Hate speech, harassment, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
- Threats or incitement of violence
- Sexual harassment or unwanted advances
- Doxxing or sharing private information without consent
- Illegal activity or encouragement of illegal activity
- Copyright infringement or intellectual property violations
- Impersonation of other individuals or entities
- False credentials or misrepresentation of qualifications
- Scams, fraud, or deceptive practices
Logbook and Professional Information
Since many users maintain logbooks and professional profiles on Cru:
- Keep your logbook accurate - Cru's logbook is designed to meet FAA recordkeeping requirements under 14 CFR §61.51. Maintain it with the same integrity you'd use for any official logbook.
- Back up your data - Like any digital logbook, we recommend periodically exporting or backing up your flight records to ensure you always have access to your data.
- Don't inflate hours or credentials - The aviation community is small, and false claims will be discovered
- Respect others' privacy - Don't share others' flight hours, employers, or professional details without permission
Reporting and Moderation
How to Report
If you see content that violates these Guidelines or our Terms of Service, please use the report function within the app or contact us at support@crus.co.
What Happens Next
- Review - Our team reviews all reports, typically within 48 hours
- Action - Depending on severity, we may:
- Take no action (content doesn't violate Guidelines or Terms)
- Remove specific content
- Issue a warning to the user
- Temporarily suspend the account
- Permanently terminate the account
- Appeals - If you believe we made a mistake, you can appeal by contacting support@crus.co
Our Approach to Moderation
We believe in light-touch moderation that maintains community standards without over-policing every conversation. We trust our community to self-regulate through:
- Community feedback - Downvotes and reports signal what the community values
- Natural consequences - Users who consistently post off-topic content will find less engagement
- Thoughtful intervention - We step in when content clearly violates guidelines or harms the community
We won't moderate based on:
- Political viewpoints (unless they become harassment or hate speech)
- Unpopular opinions about aviation topics
- Disagreements between users conducted respectfully
We will moderate based on:
- Clear violations of these Guidelines or our Terms
- Harassment, threats, or hate speech
- Patterns of behavior that harm community culture
- Legal requirements
Updates to These Guidelines
We may update these Community Guidelines as Cru grows and evolves. Significant changes will be announced within the app. Your continued use of Cru constitutes acceptance of updated Guidelines.
